Burlington Studio Dance Curriculum Overview |
BSD’s programming is unique to any other studio as we offer three distinct Class Divisions to appeal to every dancer at every level of commitment. Our programs and classes are constantly audited and updated to allow us to offer the most comprehensive programs available.
EXAMINATIONS are offered to all students in Ballet, through the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and in Jazz, Tap and Acro through the Canadian Dance Teacher’s Association (CDTA). These Exams are available to students in any division, providing they meet the exam criteria.

Long before BSD offered a competitive program a PERFORMANCE group was started to give students an opportunity to perform many times throughout the year without the pressure of competition. This program is for the student who “just wants to dance!” PERFORMANCE students also participate in additional shows, opening number in recital and in extra community events including parades and festivals in Burlington. Students must be able to commit to an action packed year of fun and performing. Auditions for the PERFORMANCE Company are held each year in September. Please see “Studio News” for details. |

Now entering its fourth season, BSD’s COMPETITIVE team has quickly evolved into to a powerful group of talented and dedicated boys and girls who thrive on the challenge of competing their numbers in three local competitions each season. COMPETITIVE students must commit to all of the PERFORMANCE group’s events in addition to their own rigorous schedule of competitions. Having the two Dance Companies work together on extra shows and events fosters a sense of teamwork and comradery among the students at all ages. The COMPETIVE Division demands the most commitment with respect to weekly CORE class commitment and participating in Exams, Shows, Competitions, and community events including fundraising. Competitive auditions are held each year in May for the next dance season. |

Each student at BSD is an integral part of our family whether they choose to take one class per week, or twelve classes per week. Our CORE programs are technique classes that combine students from all three divisions so there is no preference to the more involved student. We strive to instill a sense of family, community and belonging throughout all our classes. BSD does not feel students who choose to dance once or twice a week should be given the stigma “rec students” as this implies their place is less important at the studio. This is why all of our CORE classes are given the same, if not more attention than any other program we offer. Our ABC (or Accelerated Beginner Class) was uniquely developed to allow NEW students with NO dance experience (ages 10 and up) a chance to start dance with kids their own age. ABC students take one year in this program to develop their training and are then integrated into the core classes the following year. No more ‘teen’ classes! |
