Tap evolved from a variety of dance forms including the Irish jig, various types of African dance, Spanish flamenco, and English clogging. The percussive sound is made from metal taps on the bottom of the shoe. Our tap classes encompass many forms of Tap Dance ranging from original styles seen in Vaudeville and on Broadway to more modern and innovative Rhythm styles.
Tap teaches an awareness of beat, timing and rhythm combining the technique of tap dancing from nostalgic to modern styles. Tap is a fun, fast and rhythmic art form, like being your own drum set. It's hard to be sad when you’re tapping!
CDTA method is taught along with the BSD requirements to help students improve and excel in Tap. Technique and rhythm exercises are taught and practiced using the bar, centre floor and across the floor combinations.
All Tap students would benefit from taking a technique class in Jazz and/or Ballet to compliment our Tap program. CDTA Exams are available to those students who meet the exam requirements.
