Breakdance
Ages: 6 years and up

Breakdance, breaking or b-boying is a street dance style that evolved along with the hip hop movement among youths in New York City during the early 1970s and is also the foundation of all Hip Hop styles.  Breakdancing may have begun as a productive and constructive youth culture alternative to the violence of the urban streets. Since acceptance and involvement centers on dance abilities, breakdancing culture has now been accepted worldwide.

Today, breakdancing culture is a discipline somewhere between those of dancers and athletes requiring great strength and agility of its dancers.  It is normally danced to electro or hip hop music, often remixed to prolong the breaks, and is a well-known dance style. Breakdancing involves the elements including uprock, downrock, freezes, and power moves.

The Breakdance program has been a part of BSD for close to ten years and keeps improving and expanding offering both co-ed and ‘boys only’ classes.  Break classes demand great athleticism and style!
